Maltipoos

Maltipoos originated in the United States, the Maltipoo was carefully bred to be a small and affectionate companion. The Maltipoo was bred to be a wonderful pet that would fit into any family’s lifestyle.

Our Maltipoo puppies are first generation crosses (F1). They are a cross between a toy poodle and a maltese. Maltipoos are loyal, friendly, playful companion dogs. They are affectionate and love human company, whilst maltipoos generally love to walk, they must live indoors.

One of the reasons Maltipoos are so popular is that they retain their puppy-like characteristics well into adulthood. They are intelligent and can be easily trained and most will enjoy playing with you at an age when other types of dogs would rather sit and watch the action. They are known for having a remarkable temperament and love to curl up on our lap for a nap and cuddle.

Maltipoos get on well with children, however since they can be small and fragile they are recommended for older children. With this in mind, younger children can be taught how to properly handle the dog, children should always be supervised around dogs.

Maltipoo coats differ from thick and wavy to soft and silky. They require regular bathing and brushing at home and professional grooming every 6 – 8 weeks. Maltipoo colours can also vary greatly. Most are not a deep, dark solid colour – this is because F1 Maltipoos have one parent that is a Maltese (solid white), when bred with a poodle the solid white of the Maltese will mix with the colouring of the poodle.

Maltipoos are bred to be hypoallergenic dogs however this is something we can never guarantee. Those with allergies should spend time with other Maltipoos to ensure it is the right breed for them.

Small dogs typically live longer lives than larger breeds. The average life expectancy for a maltipoo is 12. You can expect an adult maltipoo to weigh between 2kg and 5kg.

We mostly use toy poodles in our Maltipoo breeding – this is the smallest of the poodle family. We will occasionally use a small Miniature Poodle.
